the mineral elements are those chemical elements,other than carbon,hydrogen,oxygen and nitrogen, which are required by the body.

광물질 성분들은 탄소(carbon), 수소(hydrogen), 산소(oxygen)과 질소(nitrogen)를 제외한 화학적(chemical) 성분을 말하는데 몸에 필요한 성분들이다.

이들은 주로 무기염(inorganic salts)의 형태로 음식물에 존재하는데 예를 들면 염화 나트륨(sodium chloride)이 있다.

but some are present in organic compounds, e.g.sulphur and phosphorus are constituents of many proteins.

그렇지만 어떤 것들을 유기 화합물(organic compounds)의 형태로 존재하는데 황(sulphur)과 인산(phosphorus)은 많은 단백질(protein)의 구성 성분이다.

Minerals have three main functions in the body:

인체에서 광물질은 세가지의 주요 기능을 한다.

1. calcium,phosphorus and magnesium are constituents of bones and teeth.

칼슘, 인산과 마그네슘(magnesium)은 뼈(bone)와 치아(teeth)를 구성한다.

2. some elements are present as soluble salts which help to control the composition of body fluids.

일부 광물질들은 체액(body fluids)의 구성을 조절하는 것을 돕는 가용성 염(salts)으로 존재한다.

there include potassium and magne-sium present inside body cells and sodium and chlorine in the fluid outside the cells.

이런 광물질로 체세포(body cell) 내에 존재하는 칼륨(potassium: 포타슘)과 마그네슘 그리고 세포 바깥의 체액(fluid)에 있는 나트륨(sodium)과 염소(chlorine) 가 있다.

3. many of the trace elements are concerned in enzyme system in the body.



많은 미량 미네랄은 인체의 효소계(enzyme system)과 관계가 있다.
